Laird & Lee's Standard Webster Pocket Dictionary 1923 Must See!

This beautiful little book has been in our family for generations. My great-grandmother was a german prostitute who fell in love with a soldier who was wonderful to her daughter, my grandmother, Edeltraut. He was a german soldier during WWII and it took me until I was 35 to connect the dots and realize that meant he was a Nazi. During WWII he was taken as a prisoner of war. He was treated so much better as a US prisoner of war than as a German soldier he decided to emigrate to America when the war ended. They came to America by boat. He carried this book memorizing english words. The definitions are quite succinct. And there are many words in this little book that I myself, a lover of linguistics had never heard.
There is a 13 cent Christmas postage stamp within it's pages. Apparently circa 1976. I love the little tabbed letters. It is an old book though and there are loose pages, pencil writings, etc as shown in photos. I also enjoy looking at the old maps which are so different...
