Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disease, involving inappropriately elevated blood glucose levels. – Цукровий діабет (ЦД) — це метаболічне захворювання, що супроводжується невідповідним підвищенням рівня глюкози в крові.

🔗T1DM is characterized by the destruction of beta cells in the pancreas, typically secondary to an autoimmune process. T2DM involves a more insidious onset where an imbalance between insulin levels and insulin sensitivity causes a functional deficit of insulin.

-cuts/bruises that are slow to heal – порізи/синці, що повільно загоюються
-weight loss—even though patients are eating more (type 1) – втрата ваги, навіть якщо пацієнти їдять більше (тип 1)
-tingling, pain, or numbness in the hands/feet (type 2) – поколювання, біль або оніміння в руках/ногах (тип 2)

Since T1DM is a disease primarily due to the absence of insulin, insulin administration through daily injections, or an insulin pump, is the mainstay of treatment. – Оскільки цукровий діабет 1 типу є захворюванням, спричиненим переважно відсутністю інсуліну, введення інсуліну шляхом щоденних ін’єкцій або інсулінової помпи є основою лікування.

In T2DM, diet and exercise may be adequate treatments, especially initially. Other therapies may target insulin sensitivity. – При ЦД2 дієта та фізичні вправи можуть бути адекватним лікуванням, особливо на початковому етапі. Інші методи лікування можуть бути націлені на чутливість до інсуліну.
