Past simple and past continuous tenses are important in English grammar because they allow us to convey information about actions or events that occurred in the past. These tenses are important because they provide clarity and context to your storytelling or communication. They allow you to differentiate between actions that are completed and those that were ongoing or interrupted in the past.

Минулий простий і минулий тривалий часи важливі в граматиці англійської мови, оскільки вони дозволяють нам передавати інформацію про дії чи події, які відбулися в минулому. Ці часи важливі, оскільки вони забезпечують ясність і контекст вашої розповіді чи спілкування. Вони дозволяють відрізнити завершені дії від тих, що тривали або були перервані в минулому.

📌To make Past Simple sentence we add -ed to the regular verb or choose V2 form of the irregular verb. – Щоб зробити речення Past Simple, ми додаємо -ed до правильного дієслова або обираємо форму V2 неправильного дієслова.

• The surgeon performed a successful heart surgery. – Хірург провів успішну операцію на серці.
• The doctor chose the best treatment for the patient. – Лікар підібрав найкраще лікування для пацієнта.

📌To make Past Continuous sentence we add the past tense of the verb «be» (was/were) and the main verb+ing. – Щоб створити речення Past Continuous, ми додаємо минулий час дієслова «be» (was/were) і головне дієслово+ing.

• The patient was coughing throughout the night. – Хворий кашляв всю ніч.
• Nurses were monitoring the patient`s condition during the procedure. – За станом пацієнта під час процедури стежили медсестри.

📌We use Past Simple to talk about an action which happened at a definite time in the past. – Ми використовуємо Past Simple, щоб говорити про дію, яка сталася в певний час у минулому.

• He underwent surgery to remove the appendix two days ago. – Два дні тому йому зробили операцію з видалення апендикса.
• The doctor diagnosed mild infection yesterday. – Лікар вчора діагностував легку інфекцію.

📌We use Past Continuous to talk about an action which was in progress at a stated time in the past. – Ми використовуємо Past Continuous, щоб говорити про дію, яка виконувалась у визначений час у минулому.

• During the accident, the paramedics were providing first aid to the injured individuals. – Під час ДТП медики надавали першу медичну допомогу постраждалим.
• The lab technicians were analyzing blood samples for various tests throughout the night. – Цілу ніч лаборанти аналізували зразки крові для різних аналізів.

📌We use Past Simple to talk about actions which happened immediately one after other in the past. – Ми використовуємо Past Simple, щоб говорити про дії, які відбувалися відразу одна за одною в минулому.

• The lab technician collected the blood samples and ran the tests promptly. – Лаборант відібрав зразки крові та негайно провів аналізи.
• The radiologist reviewed the X-rays and identified the fracture in the patient`s arm. – Рентгенолог, переглянувши рентгенівські знімки, виявив перелом руки пацієнта.

📌We use Past Continuous to talk about two or more simultaneous actions. – Ми використовуємо Past Continuous, щоб говорити про дві або більше одночасних дій.

• While the surgeon was operating on the patient, the nurse was monitoring vital signs. – Поки хірург оперував пацієнта, медсестра стежила за життєвими функціями.
• During the medical conference, the researchers were presenting their findings and the audience was taking notes. – Під час медичної конференції дослідники презентували свої висновки, а аудиторія робила нотатки.

📌We use Past Simple to talk about past habits or states which are now finished. – Ми використовуємо Past Simple, щоб говорити про минулі звички або стани, які зараз закінчилися.
